On a PowerPoint with about 20 Excel objects it takes me 15min to update. Kind of a occupational obstacle when there's a group who "know better" in charge. With the Powerpoint file closed, I open any pertinent source Excel file s in which the linked tables are located. Then I will open the Powerpoint file. Occasionally, the "Update Links" security warning banner appears across the top near the toolbars I will enable this automatic. Again, I'm on a network with constant security and software updates, so settings get reset to the "corporate" default.
Once I have done this, the live update link between the Excel and Powerpoint seems to work no problem for that working session. The next time I need to open the Powerpoint, I simply repeat the procedure of opening in a given order Is MS going to fix this problem? Why is Powerpoint trying to reopen the Excel File when I already have it open? Another issue is shared workbooks in Excel, it defeats the purpose if you cannot edit charts and pivot tables, NO? I keep on running into this ugly problem.
I can't even paste the object and-just embed the data, I can only embed the whole excel file which then turns my powerpoint into a monster size wise. I need to duplicate it to a new name and keep working. This creates useless and messy multiple versions of same files. Microsoft is doing an ugly job on this. Shame shame shame. The worst thing is that the linked data will never update properly, there is no 'data update' command, and the update only happens in random moments.
What the mess is this? Where are the professionals here? So can we have a patch for this? Please allow users to 'paste graph and embed data' that's it. Leave the kinks to excel where they should have remained: in the trash! I am getting so angry with this, it's being like this since ages without anyone microsoft trying to correct this.
